Winter in Saskatchewan is Marked by Freezing Drizzle and Snowfall

Heavy snowfall will fall today in southeastern Saskatchewan due to a low-pressure system moving in from Montana.

According to the Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), there will be 10-15 cm of snow until Sunday morning, as well as slippery road conditions.

An ECCC meteorologist forecasts the brunt of the storm will hit on Saturday.

Fulton predicted that the majority of the snowfall would fall today. “We expect about 10 to 15 centimeters of snow in the southern section of the province by Sunday morning, but the amount will vary a lot.”

This system will likely remain in the southeast corner of the province, according to Fulton.

There is no way it will get into Regina; it has pretty much stalled.” Fulton said. Unless we get a chance later in the day to get more on this, your day will probably be over if you don’t get it now.”

According to him, what happens to the snow is essentially a coin flip. Fulton says “It will be a close call because another system is coming next week that will bring some rain.” Fulton says “At least until next week, there won’t be any big freezes.”

According to the ECCC, roads could be difficult to drive in rapidly accumulating snow, and travelers should adjust their driving.

On Saturday, ECCC issued some freezing drizzle advisories, which are responsible for making untreated surfaces slippery with thin and hard-to-detect ice layers.

Saskatoon police were dealing with several multiple-vehicle collisions along the Circle Drive North Bridge and Senator Sid Buckwold Bridge.

Several traffic restrictions and delays are ongoing in these areas, according to the Saskatoon Police Service.
