UK households urged to stock up on six food items before a snowstorm
Before a 15-hour snowstorm sweeps the country, households are asked to buy six essential food items.
Several parts of the country could be affected by a yellow weather warning for snow and ice from 7 pm on Monday to 10 am on Tuesday.
Scotland, northern England, north Wales, the north Midlands, and all of Northern Ireland will be affected by wintry weather, with some areas receiving as much as 20cm of snow.
Power cuts and disruptions in mobile phone service are likely to happen in the affected areas, according to the national forecaster.
Therefore, households are being advised to prepare for the bout of cold weather by gathering essential items.
When people prepare in advance for the possibility of power cuts or being cut off from services and amenities due to snowfall, they are more likely to cope with the situation.
You only need torches, batteries, a power pack for your mobile phone, and other essential items.
Besides torches and battery packs, it’s important to stock your home with essential food items ahead of the snowstorm.
In the event of bad weather, households should stock up on non-perishable snacks and supplies, so they won’t go hungry during the time they wait for the power to be restored.
In advance of a snowstorm, households should ensure they have six food and drink items, including:
- Water bottles (in case of supply disruptions)
- Pancakes
- Drinking milk
- Soups and stews, especially tinned goods
- Packets of crisps, crackers, and cookies for snacking
- Granola and cereal
- Sauces and dried pasta
