Thousands of schools remained closed following the first snowfall of the season, triggering yellow weather warnings.

According to forecasters, there is a possibility that vehicles will be stranded, there will be power cuts, and rural areas will be cut off.

Rural parts of Scotland and Wales could experience temperatures as low as -12C on Wednesday.

Eastern, northern, and northern Ireland have received yellow weather warnings, and parts of western Scotland have received yellow warnings.

On Wednesday, a yellow alert will be in effect for southern and central England.

It is expected that snow and ice will fall across Wales on Wednesday, with the yellow alert being in effect until 10 am.

Yellow weather warnings indicate some low-level disruptions to travel and the possibility of slips and falls on icy surfaces.

It advised people to take extra precautions while out and about on X due to the possibility of icy roads.

Higher ground along the North Sea coast is also expected to get 10cm (4in) of snow.
Throughout the upcoming days, temperatures will be significantly below average by day – and below freezing at night.

In London, temperatures are expected to drop to -2C on Friday, and in Birmingham, -4C, and further north, -7C.

A typical November day in London is 11 degrees Celsius and a typical night is 5 degrees Celsius.

Braemar in Aberdeenshire reached a low of -11.2C on Monday, its coldest night since 1998.

Aberdeenshire’s New Leeds district also experienced icy roads leading to a bus being flipped. Injuries were not reported.

Many drivers experienced their first taste of winter Tuesday after Tuesday’s snowfall, in which “some of the worst road conditions” were reported.

A blanket, warm waterproof coat, gloves, sturdy footwear, a charging cable, and a mobile power bank are all essentials in case of breakdowns,” said spokesperson Alice Simpson.

Crash-filled snowy roads closed the A55 eastbound in Flintshire at Caerwys due to travel problems in Wales.

A severe weather disruption affected 13% of Transport for Wales services.


A cold weather health alert has been issued by UKHSA for the East Coast, East Midlands, West Midlands, North East, North West, and Yorkshire and Humber.

Health services may be affected by the weather, putting vulnerable people at risk.

“Make sure your friends, family, and neighbors are prepared for the onset of cold weather by checking in on them.

“Especially with the elderly and those at increased risk,” Dr Agostinho Sousa said.

People who live in extremely cold climates may qualify for cold weather payments – government benefits to cover fuel bills during the cold months.

A government website outlines additional criteria for those who qualify.

It’s necessary to have the average temperature in the local area be 0C – or below – for seven consecutive days.

Weather stations located near the claimant’s address must record the temperature.
