Several Bradford Districts are Under Amber Snow Warnings

Rain and snow yellow warnings cover the entire district, while amber Snow warnings cover parts of Bingley, Keighley, Ilkley, and Skipton. 

There is a warning in effect from 7 am until 12 noon today. Some areas of the district have already received snowfall. 

The Met Office reports that Storm Bert will bring heavy snow on Saturday morning, causing disruptions. 

The report explains that heavy Amber Snow is expected to spread northeastward on Saturday morning, resulting in significant accumulations, particularly on hills.

As much as 20-30 cm might be accumulated on hills above 400 meters over the next few days in the Vale of York.

This includes an accumulation of 5-10 cm in the ground typically above 200 meters, and 10-20 cm on hills above 400 meters.

Eventually, the snow will give way to rain across all areas by Saturday afternoon but may be preceded by a brief spell of freezing rain in some areas, causing ice accumulations.

As wind speeds strengthen, lying snow will drift, making travel difficult on higher-level routes and interrupting power supplies likely.

After Saturday, milder air will enter the area and cause a rapid thawing of lying snow.”

At 4 am this morning, a yellow warning was issued. It will remain in effect until 9 am tomorrow.

“There may be some disruption on Saturday night due to heavy snow on Saturday followed by a rapid thaw,” the report says.
